| Description: |
From 1992. A rare item from the early 90's, and an honor for us to
be able to offer for sale at this year's Wallace Family show, this item
is a customized selection of elements from a full-body belt the Wallace
completed in 1988 - that original belt is now in the collection of the
Mingei International Museum in San Diego. As described by Lois Sherr
Dubin in her book Arctic Transformations: The Jewelry of Denise and
Samuel Wallace, "Each shaman has four (simultaneous) components:
animal-shaman, mask, animal transformed, and animal etching." As
you can see by the many photos we've included here, this belt can be
worn as a single piece, or disassembled to become a whole collection of
jewelry pieces. It is worn on a leather belt and can be adjusted to fit
any waist size. The custom-made shadow box frame is included so that the
belt can be displayed as a static art piece (note lower photograph). |
