Here photos and comments on some of the pieces for the new
dashboard.
Note: the boat was built in the winter of 1950-51. It looked
better at that time than when I first pulled it out of long-term storage in
2003...

This is the original panel with newer gauges installed for the photo. The
panel is a Stewart Warner "Mate" panel with a "Dull Chrome Basket Weave"
insert (the insert is a sheet of chrome-plated brass. The original gauges
were mechanical Stewart Warner "Wings" gauges. I am going to replace this
with a five-hole panel (below).
The surround of this panel has perfect chrome, but the insert is in poor
shape (you can't tell from the photo) - especially that it has a hole gouged
into it for the ignition key! The insert needs to be replaced and I don't
know how to recreate the basket weave... could just engine-turn a stainless
copy it and it'd be suitable.
This Stewart Warner sender was a later replacement and is
totally burned out inside. I do not like the need for a battery in this
style of sender as it is not useful for my needs.
This is a SW "Navigator" panel. The insert was painted
crinkled black and can be repainted, although I'd like to make a new
stainless insert and recreate the basket weave of the original panel (or
engine-turn). The surround on this panel has some slight pitting and needs
to be re-chromed but is otherwise in good shape. If I win a lottery I'd
prefer to get Wings gauges (or recreations), but I don't buy lottery tickets
and these will do nicely. These are all electric gauges.
This is the back of the tach shown above.
This is the back of the Chrysler Crown engine - the water
pump is the obvious bronze part. Just above it and to the right is the tach
drive with a cap covering the connection. I will note the exact size of the
connection soon, but it is a male thread 7/8" or so.
This is the distributor in a photo from when I pulled the
engine. It has no tach drive, but there is a lead to the coil (the brown
wire), which is also there in the new unit (I've converted it to Petronix
eletronic ignition).
**I took this photo off an eBay archive
- I don't own this piece...
This is a Stewart Warner 6 cylinder Tach Sender; Model
#819892. It says "6 cylinder. 4 cycle. 6 or 12 volt." P-9 marked on
bottom.
I don't know anything about this piece or if it will work for me.

This is a Stewart Warner Tachometer Mechanical Sender -
Model #304807 SW# 821135 that was on eBay recently - could I hook this up to
the rear tach drive on the engine and wire it to the electric tach I already
own?
