Bag Fastener (Seal Design I) Pin/Pendant by Denise Wallace (#4/5, Circa 2006)

This gorgeous piece is Denise's interpretation of a classic toggle, or Bag Fastener, used in early cultures for fastening flaps on utility bags, clothing and many other containers. The early Okvik and Old Bering Sea cultures of the Alaskan coast created their toggles out of decorated pieces of Walrus Tusk Ivory and it is that style which is the inspiration for this piece.
